First day outside

Shortly after this we brought them in after a huge clap of thunder, you can see the raincloud advancing from Dartmoor so we can tell when it's about to pour down.

Hello young man.

Out he comes!

Long legs!

No wonder he couldn't stand easily, he's got the longest legs ever!

April foal

Daisy's colt

Talk about unusual blaze..P wanted to call him Roger because his blaze looks like a Jolly Roger at night, but the rest of us have argued no..

Daisy's foal

Here he is, probably going to be grey but with a distinctive jagged blaze and four white legs. He's called My O Silver (as in Hi ho Silver!) because his Dad is called My O My and his Mum Silver Cruisin..
Too cold to let him out today so he's inside with his dam.

Rocky

Why is it I always wish we owned the nice horses we get in to back!!!!
This one looks like he will do any job..

Caroline backing a lovely youngster

He's a really nice Dutch warmblood, super personality, and such an obliging chap. (he's 16. 33hh and almost 4), he will get the basics then go back to his owner, I reckon she's got a smashing horse there.

Daisy

Amber

Pulling a funny face, she has been here a week today.

Amberleaf

This is our latest broodmare, by our old stallion, she was bred locally and then sold to a show jumping home, now aged 10 we have bought her back to put to Chocolate. I can't wait to put her in with the other two half sisters, who look just like her, they will look like triplets...

If the vet hadn't confirmed she was in foal

I wouldn't have agreed with him, but she is now vastly overdue (March 21st and today is April 19th!!
She doesn't even LOOK in foal, partly because she is slowly gaining condition. I have opened up a new very rich field to them today but nothing has meandered through, looks like they will have to be led and shown the grass. Our own home bred mares tend to know a yell of "Come up!" means fresh grass and come at a canter, these have yet to learn that.

Look closely!

This is actually a yearling lying down with a filly behind him! He stuffed his face with spring grass and was sleeping it off.

Does my belly look big in this?

Jenny, due to foal in two weeks!

First day in a new grazing field.

Mix of retired and broodmares.

We haven't used anywhere near as much haylage as usual this year, good to have some in hand provided they don't break through that fence!

Reid and Emily

Poor Emily, Reid goes home tomorrow after his owner has finished travelling, and she lost Selwyn the other week. She is friends with the spotty mare Luna but must wonder where her mates are disappearing to.

Mix of retired horses

Orion has done better this winter, seen here enjoying the spring grass.
