We bought Bert as a four year old and he was quite a handful!
As time went on we forged a relationship which lasted until he died in 2006 after 19 years with us.
His bloodlines were excellent, being by Knock Boy who in turn produced Seacrest/Cruising, and his stock all inherit his jumping ability.
If they have a fault they can be opinionated jumping, but at least it's usually about what speed to approach the fences, not about whether to jump...
We now breed his daughters' to Chocolate because his calm temperament and superb paces produce really nice animals.
Over the years we've used other stallions, but now feel we have the best of both bloodlines, Chocx dam was an Advanced event mare who I used to watch at Burghley, and he possesses the most trainable temperament ever..
I suppose probably we should have done stuff like stallion parades etc but never had time; now Bert has horses spread round the country most still with their original owners because they enjoy them so much, so his legacy lives on.
